How to stay motivated during stressful times

For most of us, stress is a familiar feeling, and at some point, we all will experience some form of stress in our everyday routines. Consider these 10 tips to stay motivated during stressful times at work.

 

1. Exercise. Exercising triggers the release of endorphins, also known as the happy hormone. If you are at work, consider going for a light walk and complete a few stretches. Check out more ways you can incorporate exercise into your work routine here.

Outside of work, try to do 30 minutes of an activity per day. This can be going for a walk outside, yoga or even a brisk jog. Whatever you choose, choose something you love to do.

 

2. Write down your worries. Writing down your concerns will help you organize your thoughts so you can address the proper solutions. Prioritize what deadlines are the most important and set goals and an action plan. If needed, ask for help from your coworkers or boss.

 

3. Think happy thoughts. Positivity attracts positivity. If you find yourself in a negative rut, list 5 to 10 things that you love about your job and why they make you happy. Do this daily for positive reinforcement and daily encouragement.

 

4. Take mental breaks. Yes, you need to take mental breaks throughout the day. Taking breaks can help you organize your thoughts and see things with a fresh pair of eyes.

 

5. Breath. Taking deep breaths helps us calm down, relax and trigger a meditative state. If you find yourself panicking or suffering from anxiety, close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.

 

6. Spend time outside. Enjoying fresh air and sitting in the sun also triggers the release of endorphins, even if you are just siting outside. If you are feeling down, take a break and sit in the sun.

 

7. Sleep. Getting plenty of sleep plays a vital role in our health and sets the tone for the day. Try to get at least 8 hours of rest a day. You can achieve this by setting perimiters at home. Consider powering down all devices by a certain time and sticking to a bed time.

 

8. Drink more water. Nothing is more exhausting than a sleep-deprived, dehydrated body. Without proper hydration, your body simply can function the way it was designed to. Drinking more water throughout the day will not only benefit your health, but it will flush out any toxins that cause you to feel less than best.

 

9. Eat a balanced diet. The healthier you are, the least likely you are to be stressed. It is scientifically proven that healthier people are naturally happier. Eating a well-balanced diet will help improve energy levels and overall health.

 

10. Set personal goals. Setting personal goals is a great way to stay motivated because it gives you something to focus on. These goals can be daily, weekly or even yearly. You have the power to determine how short or long term these goals are. Just remember to keep them realistic.
